There are several possibilities that could account for this. It’s possible that the investigator didn’t have duplicates of the shot, or that taking more pictures might taint the evidence in some manner.

These two scenarios are both plausible. Regardless of why these photographs were shot, they provide a fascinating glimpse into the investigation of one of Florida’s most iconic crimes.

Candy Montgomery was preparing to exit the room, attempting to flee her confrontation with Betty Gore. The two apparently fought over the ax that Gore used to threaten Montgomery in the first place.

According to the victim’s court evidence, even after she smacked her in the head, causing considerable blood, she would not allow her to flee.

Candy Montgomery, according to sources, rinsed the blood off herself in the victim’s house before departing to go about her daily business. She stated during her trial that she took a shower at the Gore home before departing while Betty’s infant was still upstairs, wailing in the crib.

She changed into clean clothes at home and went to church to attend Bible school with her children and Gores’ older daughter before going out to lunch with friends. Montgomery also threw away the shoes she was wearing when she murdered Gore.

Betty Gore’s next-door neighbors discovered the bloody crime scene

Two of Gore’s neighbors, Lester Gayler and Richard Parker, discovered her body and the gruesome crime scene at her home. The two allegedly walked over to the Gores’ house after getting calls from Betty’s husband, Allan Gore, who became concerned about her whereabouts when she did not return his calls.

Gayler described the crime scene as the most horrifying thing he had ever seen. He recalls seeing ax marks as high as the roof and blood everywhere. Lester also remembered seeing Montgomery the next day and remarked that she seemed unaffected by the incident.
