Prediction

In the welterweight division, it will be a clash between former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos and number nine ranked Vicente Luque. Luque is a savage, pure striker with some of the best Muay Thai in the division, while dos Anjos is a well-rounded fighter with great grappling. In this fight, the key will be who can impose their will on the other. Luque is coming off a knockout win over Mike Perry, while dos Anjos is coming off a decision loss to Leon Edwards. Dos Anjos has shown in the past that he can take a punch, but Luque is on a whole other level when it comes to striking. Luque also has the power to end the fight at any moment. Dos Anjos will need to use his grappling to take Luque down and grind out a decision. Luque is too dangerous on the feet and dos Anjos will be in for a long night if he tries to stand and trade with Luque. Luque is a tough fighter, but dos Anjos is the more well-rounded fighter and will be able to take this fight by decision.

Vicente Luque vs. Rafael dos Anjos:

Vicente Luque and Rafael dos Anjos will headline UFC Fight Night on Saturday in an intriguing welterweight bout. Luque is coming off a impressive performance at UFC 249 where he defeated Niko Price via first-round knockout. That victory marked Luque’s sixth straight win, and he’s now 9-1 in his last 10 fights. The Brazilian is one of the top young talents in the welterweight division and is looking to take another step forward in his career with a win over dos Anjos. Dos Anjos, a former UFC lightweight champion, is looking to get back on track after suffering a decision loss to Islam Makhachev in his last bout. That defeat snapped a three-fight winning streak for dos Anjos, who has alternated wins and losses over his last six fights. The 35-year-old Brazilian is still a dangerous fighter, however, and will be a tough test for Luque. This is an important bout for both fighters as they look to move up the welterweight rankings. Luque is currently ranked No. 11 in the division, while dos Anjos is one spot below him at No. 12. A win for either fighter could put them in position for a future title shot. Luque is a talented striker with knockout power, and he’s also a dangerous submission artist. Dos Anjos is a well-rounded fighter who is a dangerous grappler, and he’s also shown improved striking in recent years. This should be a close bout, but I believe Luque has the edge on the feet and he will be able to keep the fight there. Luque is a tough fighter, and I think he’ll be able to weather any storms that dos Anjos may bring. I’m predicting a victory for Luque by unanimous decision.

Even though Rafael dos Anjos is the favorite going into this fight, Michael Luque has proved he is not to be underestimated. Luque has the chance to create an upset and take the win in this fight. dos Anjos will need to be on his toes and at the top of his game if he wants to retain his title.

UFC’s most dependable welterweight finisher is set to face one of the promotion’s reliable veterans. Vicente Luque vs. Rafael dos Anjos headlines UFC Fight Night at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

There are few fighters with the killer instincts of Luque (21-9-1). If he’s scoring a win inside the Octagon, it’s almost certain to be a finish as 13 of his 14 career wins have come via stoppage. Luque appeared to have hit a new gear with four straight stoppage wins between 2020 and 2021 — including submitting former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley — but subsequently found himself losing consecutive fights and getting knocked out for the first time in his career. The KO loss he suffered to Geoff Neal caused a brain bleed, forcing Luque to take a year off competition. That time off was well served and Luque is champing at the bit to show his growth as a fighter.

“People know I’m a great striker and I have dangerous submissions. I have toughness at a high, high level,” Luque told CBS Sports. “But I feel I still have so much skill to show. So many things that I’ve developed during this last year that I’ve been out. I’m excited to see and show everyone.”
